Public Health Scotland has developed a series of papers that consider the possible consequences of COVID-19, the pandemic, and associated infection control measures, on children’s and young people’s development and wellbeing.

The aim is to provide evidence to support planning and action to reduce or prevent negative outcomes (including in the event of future ‘lockdowns’), and promote positive futures for this generation of children and young people.

Each paper draws on three sources of evidence to identify and assess the possible impacts on development, health and well-being:

  1. What we already know about children’s and young people’s development and the likely impact of COVID-19 and infection control measures, particularly for those groups already at risk of poorer outcomes.
  2. Surveys and research with parents/carers and with children and young people, exploring their experiences of lockdown and the impacts this has had.
  3. Available data on relevant children’s and young people’s service availability and usage during and beyond ‘lockdown’ in Scotland.
