Winter vaccinations
Eligible groups
NHS Scotland follows advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).
The JCVI recommends that people have both the flu and COVID-19 vaccines this year if they are:
- aged 50 or over
- a staff member working in a care home for older adults
- a frontline health or social care worker
- aged 5 to 49 years with an eligible health condition
- aged 5 to 49 years and are a household contact of someone with a severely weakened immune system
- an unpaid carer aged 16 years or over
- pregnant
Some people are eligible for the flu vaccine only. This includes:
- people aged 16 to 49 with an eligible health condition, including well controlled asthma
- nursery, primary or secondary school teachers or pupil-facing support workers in local authority or independent settings
- prison officers or support workers who deliver direct front-facing detention services
- children aged 6 months to 2 years with an eligible health condition
- children aged 2 to 5 years (on 1 September 2022 and not yet at school)
- primary and secondary school pupils
- non-frontline NHS workers
