“The Scottish Cancer Registry includes information on ‘Method of first

detection’. This field has been collected for all cancer registrations since

  1. This is a record of how the tumour was first detected.

Options available under this variable are:

  1. Screening examination
  2. Incidental finding (on examination or at surgery for an unrelated reason)
  3. Clinical presentation (with relevant symptoms)
  4. Incidental finding at autopsy (previously unsuspected)
  5. Interval cancer
  6. Other
  7. Not known”

Based on this information, please provide the following information

words, a sentence or two of how PHS defines these options.”
