The Public Health Scotland (PHS) Board is delighted to welcome our 2025 Boardroom Apprentice, Oluwagbemileke Taiwo (Leke) who started his twelve-month board learning and development placement Programme with us as of 1 January 2025.

The Boardroom Apprentice Programme is a unique 12-month board learning, development and placement programme which enables those who would like to serve on a public or third sector board to learn and gain the experience that they need to take that step.

Anna Robertson, Governance Lead for PHS, said:

“Leke applied for the Boardroom Apprenticeship Programme along with 342 other hopeful applicants and on being one of the candidates accepted, was allocated to PHS.  Following a successful year with our last Boardroom Apprentice, our Board is looking forward to working with Leke for the next year and sharing opportunities for learning and development that will support him in considering a future role on a Board.”

Leke works as a Civil Servant at the Department for Work and Pensions and previously worked as an intern data analyst at the Cabinet Office in Glasgow. He has an HND in Industrial Maintenance Engineering from Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, an MBA in Management from the University of Lagos, Nigeria and a Master’s degree in Business Analytics from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen. In Nigeria, Leke worked in a bank as a Relationship Manager for 8 years before coming to the UK to study for his master’s degree.

Leke lives in Aberdeen with his wife and three young children.

The UK Boardroom Apprentice programme is sponsored by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government MHCLG (previously the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities DLUHC). The main aim of the programme is to build foundations for future talent to apply for board roles. The programme seeks to enable a wider diversity of individuals to play their part in our boardrooms. The overarching aim of Boardroom Apprentice is ‘to move the board member role from aspiration to reality’.
