Eligible groups

The shingles vaccine is recommended for:

  • people between the ages of 70 and 79 on 1 September 2021

People aged 80 and over won’t be offered the shingles vaccine. This is because it’s less effective as people get older.

The vaccine can be offered at any time of year.

Zostavax® or Shingrix® vaccine can be given at the same time as the PPV23 pneumococcal vaccine.

Immunisation with Zostavax® and Shingrix® should ideally be delayed for seven days after COVID-19 vaccination

More information about eligibility and getting the shingles vaccine can be found on NHS inform (external website).
