Gender based violence overview

Childhood sexual abuse

This is any act that involves the child for the sexual gratification of another person, whether or not it is claimed that the child either consented or assented

Commercial sexual exploitation

Commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) includes a wide range of often linked sexual activities which typically men profit from, or buy from women and which objectify and harm women

Domestic abuse

This is perpetrated by a partner or ex-partner and can include physical, sexual, mental and emotional abuse and actions that can be taken to address this

Ending violence against women and girls

Information on Equally Safe, Scotland's strategy to prevent and eradicate all forms of violence against women and girls (VAWG)

Violence and learning disability

Everyone should be able to enjoy their human rights, including the right to be free from abuse. People with learning disabilities are no different, although they may face more challenges

This is the trading of human beings as commodities and exploiting them for profit or personal benefit

Rape and sexual assault

The Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009 defines rape as 'penetration of the vagina, anus or mouth of another person by the penis without consent

Stalking and harassment

This involves persistent, repeated and unwanted attention, often from someone known to the victim
