What is Public Health Scotland’s (PHS) Role in SUHP?

The consensus statement will be led by PHS, but for it to be effective and have lasting impact, the findings will require investment across a broad group of partners and stakeholders.

A multi-agency working group is supporting PHS to bring together a panel with relevant knowledge of SUHP though their work or lived experience.

The voice of young people will be included and the opinion of everyone taking part will carry the same weight.

The panel will help PHS to establish consensus on the most promising approaches to SUHP.

The consensus statement process will deliver a representative agreement about the essential components of a system wide approach to SUHP.

The consensus statement aims to:

  • describe what prevention is and where it should happen, including essential prevention interventions
  • describe the delivery of these interventions
  • detail a more joined-up approach across policies to address preventative responses to underlying issues
  • support knowledge exchange
  • help find a common pathway to target future developments
  • begin the development of a whole system approach to SUHP

To take the results of the consensus statement forward, it will need:

  • collaboration and investment across a broad stakeholder group
  • local level engagement
  • the participation of children and young people
