This report presents provisional information on laboratory reports of Norovirus in Scotland up to the end of 2019. This is compared to previous years’ data to show trends over time. The surveillance of Norovirus in Scotland relies on reports from diagnostic and specialist virology laboratories in Scotland. These are reported to HPS via Electronic Communication of Surveillance in Scotland (ECOSS).
Main points:
- during 2019, there were 890 reports of Norovirus reported to HPS
- this was a decrease of around 40% on the 1491 reports in 2018
- this was the lowest number of laboratory reports in recent years
