This is a line chart with three lines showing the trend in the average number of beds occupied per day by people delayed in their discharge for all delay reasons, for standard delay reasons (Health and social care reasons and Patient, family and carer related reasons) and for Code 9 delay reasons (complex delays due to the specific care needs of the person). The chart shows that the majority of delayed discharge beds occupied during this period were due to standard delay reasons and changes in the All delay reasons trend are primarily driven by changes in the standard delay reasons. Following the Emergency Measures taken in March 2020 and their effect on the health and social care sector, from a level below that seen before the start of the COVID 19 pandemic, the average number of beds occupied per day for All delay reasons increased from April 2021 to October 2021. This was followed by a decrease in November and December 2021 then an increase to April 2022 before decreasing in May and June 2022 and then rising in July 2022. The figure remained stable in August 2022 before increasing each month to November 2022, the highest figure since July 2016. The trend was then generally downwards, with some fluctuation, to June 2023. Figures then had a general increase until November 2023 followed by small decreases in December 2023 and January 2024 and small increases to April 2024. For the year 2020/21 (which was affected by the impact of the COVID 19 Emergency Measures, introduced in March 2020), the proportion of the average number of beds occupied due to standard delay reasons was 66%; for the years 2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24 the average proportions were 71%, 72% and 72% respectively. In April 2024 the proportion was 72%. The average number of beds occupied by people delayed in their discharge due to Code 9 delay reasons increased from April 2021 to July 2021. Figures then remained relatively stable to December 2021 before rising again to March 2022. The average number of beds then generally fell to September 2022 before increasing to December 2022. Since then the average number of beds decreased each month between January and April 2023 before rising to June 2023, decreasing in July 2023 then increasing each month to December 2023 before decreasing to February 2024, increasing in March 2024 and decreasing in April 2024
