About this release

The toolkit provides a mechanism for monitoring and tracking change and improvement over time in respect of dementia services in Scotland. The toolkit contains data on expenditure, prescribing, Quality and Outcomes Framework and hospital activity up to 31 March 2019.
Main points
For Scotland as a whole for the financial year ending March 2019:
- the total expenditure for Geriatric Services decreased from £719 per head of population (65+years) in 2017/18 to £708 per head of population (65+) in 2018/19.
- the average length of stay for people discharged from a psychiatric hospital with a dementia diagnosis, decreased from 175.3 days in 2017/18 to 144.3 days in 2018/19.
- 6 out of 10 (62.4%) people, who were admitted from their home to hospital with dementia were discharged back to their home. This is similar to 2017/18 (59.6%).
