About this release

This release by Public Health Scotland (PHS) presents data for items prescribed in Scotland and reimbursed by the NHS, for January 2024. The data is in two formats - Open Data and an interactive dashboard.

Further information

Open Data files enable independent analysis of NHS Scotland prescribing data. Information is shown for each practice and by individual drug for items prescribed in Scotland and reimbursed by the NHS. In response to feedback from users we have produced a prescribing dashboard to allow exploration of the Open Data file. Four interactive views are available:

  • What are the highest cost therapeutic areas for prescriptions in the community?
  • How do individual GP Practices contribute to overall GP Practice prescribing?
  • What is the variation in Prescribing among the biggest GP practices?
  • Where are the most prescriptions being written?

Open data from this publication is available from the Scottish Health and Social Care open data portal and an interactive dashboard and monthly aggregated summary statistics can be found on the publication website

The next release of this publication will be on 14 May 2024.
