About this release
This release by Public Health Scotland is from the Local Intelligence Support Team (LIST) supported the Orkney Health and Care partnership in the production of a joint strategic needs assessment. The report reviews trends of population demographics, population health, health behaviour and wider demands on service utilisation.
Main points
Hospital admission - Cross Boundary Flow for children and young people aged under 18
Cross Boundary Flow of residents treated in non-resident health boards is published by financial year for all adults over 18. The report includes a section reviewing Children and young people's service use trends for admissions to health boards other than the one they reside. This is of particular interest for Island areas due to a reliance on mainland health boards for certain services, for example paediatric specialties.
Unscheduled care - A&E presentations for children and young people aged under 18
As above, this information is published for adults aged 18 and over but not for children and younger people. Data is presented reviewing the number of presentations to A & E split by the source of referral and separately by discharge setting.
Long term conditions and hospital admissions
There is information presented exploring various breakdowns of hospital activity associated with people suffering from LTCs. This includes breakdowns based on age as well as age and the number of long term conditions.
Background
Health and social care partnerships produce strategic commissioning plans on a three year basis. As part of the commissioning cycle partnerships are required to conduct a needs assessment to inform the development of strategic priorities. A priority of the Local Intelligence Support Team (LIST) is to provide data and analytical support to partnerships and have a strong focus on supporting this line of work.
