'Scotland’s national respiratory surveillance plan' and the 'Plan for monitoring and responding to new SARS-CoV-2 variants and mutations (VAMs)' are two PHS planning documents that inform national health protection preparedness work.
The two documents have been developed working in partnership with local health board Health Protection Teams and laboratories, with NSS, local authorities, the Scottish Government and other partners.
They are subject to ongoing review.
Scotland’s national respiratory surveillance plan
This describes the essential activities of a modern national respiratory surveillance function in Scotland.
It explains how national and local teams will collaborate to deliver an effective and efficient service.
Plan for monitoring and responding to new SARS-CoV-2 variants and mutations (VAMs)
This describes a co-ordinated process for assessing, escalating and managing incidents stemming from the introduction of a new COVID-19 VAM of public health importance.
This process can also be applied to other incidents requiring a national health protection response.
The plan does not address single cluster or outbreak scenarios, which are best managed using COVID-19 guidance for Health Protection Teams.
