Abstract

The United Kingdom has overall recorded poor results in the face of the pandemic, with excess mortality spreading throughout 2020 alongside a contraction in Gross Domestic Product. The situation is such that it has even the highest excess mortality rate in Europe [Aron J. and Muellbauer, 2020]. Although it could be the result of many factors, the reluctance of policy makers to impose restrictions (not related to medical devices) or containment has certainly negatively impacted mortality rates [Demirguc-Kunt, Lokshin and Torre, 2020] .
