SARS-CoV-2 infection in aplastic anaemia

Abstract
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARSCoV- 2), was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization in March 2020. Compared to patients with non-hematologic cancers, patients affected by hematologic disorders have increased mortality and more prolonged viral RNA persistence. Since the early phase of the pandemic, several groups have described thrombocytopenia or secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis in patients infected by SARS-CoV-2, problems likely due to a cytokine storm and the potential cytotoxicity of the virus.
