“I have been contacted by constituents who are concerned that the autumn covid booster being rolled out by NHS Scotland does not protect against the more recent variants of Covid 19 such as the JN.1 variant.

My constituents advise that the vaccine booster offered on the NHS in Scotland is a different vaccine to the one that will be provided to those who are willing to pay for the booster privately.

I should be grateful if you could offer clarity on this matter.  I understand that the MHRA has approved adapted vaccines that target the JN.1 Covid 19 variant.  Will these adapted vaccines be rolled out by NHS Scotland this autumn/winter?  Kindly also confirm what variants the autumn/winter booster vaccine will protect against?”
