Abstract

Dear Editor, It is well known that in 2020 the UK, in common with all countries, succumbed to the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the early stages of the pandemic, healthcare providers rapidly implemented contingency plans, with emergency response measures the scale of which had never previously been deployed. These measures required and relied upon the flexibility and dedication of National Health Service staff, who were redeployed from non-life-threatening areas of care to frontline work, such as accident and emergency and acute care hospital wards (https://www.england.nhs.uk/coronavirus/documents/covid-19-deploying-our-people-safely/).
