About this release

This weekly release by Public Health Scotland presents data on COVID-19 across NHSScotland.

Main points

• From 8 December 2020 to 17 January 2021, 240,487 individuals received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccination, as reported in the Vaccination Management Tool.

• In the 24-hour period from 17 January to 18 January 2021, 64% of cases tested via the UK Government laboratories had a profile consistent with the new variant of Covid-19.
• In the week ending 17 January 2021, 9,510 individuals were recorded in the contact tracing software, from which 14,752 unique contacts have been traced.
• As at 17 January 2021, there have been 163,761 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 10,516 in the week ending 17 January.
• In the week ending 15 January, there were 1,148 admissions to hospital with a laboratory confirmed test of COVID-19.
• In the week ending 16 January, there were 116 new admissions to Intensive Care Units (ICUs) for confirmed COVID-19 patients.
• In the week ending 17 January, there were 7,550 people who arrived in Scotland from outside the UK, of which 5,622 were required to quarantine and 3,126 were contacted by the National Contact Tracing Centre.
• In the week ending 14 January, 0.8% of key healthcare workers tested positive for COVID-19.
• During the week ending 17 January, there were active confirmed cases of COVID-19 in 241 out of 1,052 care homes that returned data (1,065 care homes in total).
• The number of people on the shielding list as of 18 January 2021 is 179,343.

Background

Since the start of the outbreak, Public Health Scotland (PHS) has been working closely with the Scottish Government and health and care colleagues to support the surveillance and monitoring of COVID-19 amongst the population. This report complements the range of existing data currently available.
