To stem the spread of COVID-19, from midnight on the 5 of January, all parts of Scotland currently in level 4 will move to lockdown. The island areas currently in level 3 will remain there and this will be kept under review.
Chief Executive Angela Leitch said:
"We are seeing a continuing rise of COVID-19 infections in Scotland and the actions outlined by the Scottish Government will help to control this. We know that living with restrictions is hard, but unlike our first experience in March, the vaccine roll out has begun with thousands already having received the first dose. With the new vaccine from AstraZeneca being given this week there’s further reason to have hope.
"Public Health Scotland will continue to play our part working with the Scottish Government, National Services Scotland and local NHS boards to support the population-wide COVID-19 immunisation programme. We will also continue to publish data on the spread of the virus and the numbers of vaccinations carried out in our weekly COVID-19 statistical report to inform the public health response". The latest stay at home guidance is available on the Scottish Government’s website (external website).
