Following advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) on the expansion of the older adult RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) vaccination programme, Public Health Scotland (PHS) is working with Scottish Government and NHS Boards to finalise plans for the rollout of the programme in 2026.
As well as the annual routine offer of the RSV vaccine to everyone in Scotland turning 75 years old (in 2026-27 this is anyone turning 75 between 1 August 2025 and 31 July 2026), the JCVI has confirmed the following additional groups will also be eligible:
- adults aged 80 years and older
- all residents in a care home for older adults
People aged between 75 and 79 years of age are also eligible for the RSV vaccine if they’ve not yet been vaccinated. To be eligible, their date of birth should be between 2 August 1946 and 31 July 1950.
