The COVID-19 Research Repository has been developed by Public Health Scotland (PHS) with an aim to bring together and provide access to Scottish COVID-19 research on a single shared platform in order to promote Scottish research to an international audience.

The main objectives of the repository are to:

  • make research easier to find
  • raise awareness of Scottish research
  • track, understand and report on the impact of this work
  • reduce duplication of effort
  • encourage a collaborative, cross-sectoral approach to COVID-19 research in Scotland
  • provide full-text open access to research wherever possible
  • ensure permanent preservation of PHS research

Use of the National Library of Medicine MeSH thesaurus

The COVID-19 research repository uses the National Library of Medicine’s (NLM) Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) thesaurus to represent the subject of indexed documents. These are labelled as 'keywords' in this repository.

The MeSH headings included in this repository are periodically reviewed by the Public Health Scotland Knowledge Services team to reflect updates to the MeSH thesaurus.

MeSH headings are individually selected from the online version of the MeSH thesaurus. Headings have been taken from the 2021 MeSH headings. The MeSH headings used in this repository are reviewed annually to ensure they comply with the current version.

An in-house system of keywords is used to supplement MeSH headings in order to describe some UK-specific terms and phrases. Details of this system may be shared at the discretion of the Public Health Scotland Knowledge Services team.
