Flu is very infectious and can be serious. Even healthy people can become seriously ill from flu. Flu can lead to complications that may result in hospitalisation or even death.

The annual flu vaccine is the safest and most effective way to help protect against the flu.

When the flu vaccine is given

NHS Scotland will invite those eligible for the free flu vaccine from September onwards. This will help protect individuals before flu viruses start to circulate, which is usually in winter.
