This weekly release by Public Health Scotland presents data on COVID-19 across NHSScotland.

Main points

  • From 8 December 2020 to 31 January 2021, 575,739 individuals received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccination, as reported in the Vaccination Management Tool.

  • In the 24-hour period from 31 January to 01 February 2021, 73% of cases tested via the UK Government laboratories had a profile consistent with the new variant of Covid-19.
  • In the week ending 31 January 2021, 6,242 individuals were recorded in the contact tracing software, from which 10,619 unique contacts have been traced.
  • As at 31 January 2021, there have been 180,532 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 6,747 in the week ending 31 January.
  • In the week ending 29 January, there were 843 admissions to hospital with a laboratory confirmed test of COVID-19.
  • In the week ending 30 January, there were 75 new admissions to Intensive Care Units (ICUs) for confirmed COVID-19 patients.
  • In the week ending 31 January, there were 4,651 people who arrived in Scotland from outside the UK, of which 3,562 were required to quarantine and 3,177 were contacted by the National Contact Tracing Centre.
  • In the week ending 28 January, 0.7% of key healthcare workers who were tested for COVID-19 tested positive.
  • During the week ending 31 January, there were active confirmed cases of COVID-19 in 203 out of 1,053 care homes that returned data (1,065 care homes in total).

Background

Since the start of the outbreak, Public Health Scotland (PHS) has been working closely with the Scottish Government and health and care colleagues to support the surveillance and monitoring of COVID-19 amongst the population. There is a large amount of data being regularly published regarding COVID-19 (for example, Coronavirus in Scotland – Scottish Government and Deaths involving coronavirus in Scotland – National Records of Scotland). This report complements the range of existing data currently available.

Surveillance

View information about the  COVID-19 Infection Survey (external website) – this represents the single biggest expansion to date of asymptomatic testing for surveillance purposes in the pandemic and is being conducted by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and the University of Oxford, on behalf of the UK and The Scottish Government.
