This release presents provisional information on general outbreaks of infectious intestinal disease (IID) in Scotland in 2019. This is compared to previous years’ data to show trends over time.

Data are collected as part of the surveillance of outbreaks of IID includes:

  • pathogen
  • location of outbreak
  • number of people affected
  • number of people laboratory-confirmed
  • suspected mode of transmission
  • for foodborne outbreaks, the suspected source and the associated evidence of suspicion (microbiological, epidemiological, or descriptive)
