The National Infectious Respiratory Diseases Plan 2023 to 2024 is PHS’s planning document that informs the work we do to prevent, detect and control infectious respiratory diseases of public health importance in Scotland.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic the team’s remit expanded to include integrated surveillance of diseases (including COVID-19, influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), invasive group A Streptococcus (iGAS), Legionella, and tuberculosis).

The team continues to support NHS health board health protection teams to investigate and control outbreaks, and to engage with other experts in evaluating the effectiveness of services and improving disease prevention guidance and policies.
