Permission to reproduce our content

All information that PHS publishes or discloses as part of our public task is made available under the terms of the Open Government Licence (OGL) v3.0 (external website) and we encourage its use and reuse.

You do not need to seek advance permission or inform us if you reuse PHS copyright protected material under the terms of the OGL.

The reuse of information under the OGL is free and can be re-used for commercial and non-commercial purposes.

You must not re-use Public Health Scotland material under the terms of the OGL in a way that suggests any official status or that Public Health Scotland endorses you or your use of the information.

Attribution statement

If you reuse any of our material, you must include an attribution to its source alongside it in the following form:

'Adapted from [name of publication], Public Health Scotland, [date of publication], licensed under the Open Government Licence [insert link to licence]'

Exceptions to the OGL

Some material on our website and in our publications is not covered by the OGL. The following are excluded:

  • the Public Health Scotland logo and any other third party logo
  • all images
  • anything that is explicitly credited or identified as being the copyright of an author or owner other than Public Health Scotland.

Reusing information that falls outside our public task

We will consider requests to reuse information we create that falls outside our public task. Please note that there may be a charge for this depending on the nature of the request and the information to be reused.
